Ayrshire & Arran Forestry and Woodland Strategy - Finalised Draft January 2013
The Finalised Draft Strategy has been compiled following an extensive stakeholder and public consultation exercised carried out between May and July 2012. A series of amendments have been made to the original draft strategy which have sought to refine and clarify the strategy. Further amendments are proposed to the document following consultation with the AAFWS Steering Group in February 2013. A copy of the finalised draft can be downloaded by clicking here.
 
Ayrshire & Arran Forestry & Woodland Strategy First Draft For Consultation Jan 2012
The first draft of the revised Forestry and Woodland Strategy for Ayrshire and Arran represents the collective views of the AAFWS Steering Group about the future direction of woodland creation and management. The document is consultative and is designed to stimulate debate and gather the views of key stakeholders and the wider public. The formal public consultation exercise on the document commenced on 3rd May 2012 and runs until 30 June 2012. A copy of the First Draft can be downloaded by clicking here.
 
Ayrshire & Arran Forestry and Woodland SEA Environment Report Jan 2012
As part of the preparation of the revised Forestry and Woodland Strategy, Ayrshire Joint Planning Unit are carrying out a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). The SEA is a systematic method of considering the likely environmental effects of the Forestry and Woodland Strategy and should be read in conjunction with the First Draft of the revised Strategy. Formal statutory notification of the consultation on the Environmental Report was given on 3rd May and runs until 30 June 2012. Ayrshire & Arran Forestry & Woodland Strategy - Habitats Regulation Assessment
The forestry and woodland strategy is required to be assessed against the Habitats Regulations Appraisal process to enable the competent authority to ascertain whether there would be any adverse effects on the integrity of sites of European importance for nature conservation (Special Areas of Conservation and Special Protection Areas). This document should be read in conjunction with the Draft Forestry and Woodland Strategy and the Environment Report. A copy of the Habitats Regulation Assessment can be downloaded here.

Ayrshire & Arran Woodland Strategy 2003
The Woodland Strategy was launched in January 2003 and is one of a new generation of Indicative Forest Strategies. This new generation of IFSs highlight the strategic role woodlands can play in delivering environmental enhancement and sustainable development. Rural Diversification Study
The Ayrshire and Arran Woodland Partnership commissioned a study looking at ways to maximise the contribution Ayrshire’s woodlands can make to sustainable rural development & diversification of the local economy. The study identified opportunities across a number of sectors including tourism, the development of woodland in and around communities and the development of Ayrshire’s woodfuel industry. Ayrshire & Arran Future Forestry & Woodland Guidance
As a precursor to the review of the Ayrshire & Arran Woodland Strategy, the Ayrshire Joint Planning Steering Group commissioned MD2 consultants to prepare guidance on environmental issues that should be considered in the review and to prepare a methodology for analysing the sensitivity of land for woodland creation.
